Duns Castle, dating from the 14th Century, is an idyllic Scottish venue for a fairy-tale castle wedding, where every booking of the Castle is given exclusive use. The estate, approximately one hour south of Edinburgh, boasts its own nature reserve complemented by extensive forest trails, bespoke outdoor activities and cultural experiences. Family owned since 1696, the property has stunningly beautiful public rooms, 12 unique bedrooms and 6 holiday cottages, providing on-site accommodation for up to 50 guests. The castle can comfortably seat 60 for dinner and welcome 100 for cocktails while the extensive lawns offer numerous possibilities for marquees and larger events.
Your day is our priority and what is important to you is important to us. Here at Duns Castle, every wedding is unique and we are here to support and advise you along the way so that every aspect of the occasion meets with your vision, your needs and your expectations.
As you will discover when you visit us for the first time, Duns Castle Estate is a haven of timeless beauty and tranquility, at one with nature and blessed with stunning backdrops for the ceremony, for the celebration and for the photographs that you will treasure throughout your lives. The property has been the home of the Hay family for over 300 years and the notion of family will be all the more apparent with the coming together of your respective families. Furthermore, the ability to accommodate up to 50 guests on the estate creates almost a village atmosphere, all within easy walking distance of the castle.
Duns is also such a significant place to be married. Were it not for the Covenanters who amassed their Scottish forces here in 1639, Scotland may not have retained her freedom of worship. Here we welcome all faiths and are licensed for both civil and religious ceremonies. Some couples prefer to be married in the castle, overlooking the nature reserve while others choose to be married outside by the water’s edge with the castle as the backdrop. The choice is yours and we will adapt accordingly.
Dinner in the main 14th century dining hall is a memorable occasion; we provide good freshly prepared Scottish produce prepared by our panel of award winning preferred caterers with whom we invite you to liaise directly. Our administrator will help you plan the entire day and our staff will ensure that it runs seamlessly.
In addition to delivering high quality service, we have also already identified a selection of the best service providers that Scotland, and particularly the Borders region, has to offer. These include caterers, photographers, musicians, florists, hairdressers and beauticians as well as entertainers, outdoor activity providers and coach companies - all designed to make the planning an enjoyable experience for you, stress-free and quality assured.
The castle is just over one hour from Edinburgh and 25 minutes for Berwick-upon-Tweed railway station which is on the main line to Kings Cross.
